KATOGA sincerelly congradulate Rachel Kitony for beeing awarded Judy Wilkenfield award in her exemplary work in tobacco control in Kenya and around Africa. This has realy inspired us in advocating against tobacco in Kenya. KATOGA is working in and out to make sure that tobacco farmers shift paradim to other alternative crops that harmless to their health and environment and are high yielding with high return. Also on the focus is the highly polluted environment with the destruction of indigenous trees at the pick. As a result to this KATOGA is working with the local community in developing indigenous tree seedlings to reinstate the already destructed forestry. farmers are highly exposed to tobacco smoke during curing process, and therefore there is need advocacy at a grassroot level. Educating and creating awareness to this farmers will boost their know how on the numerous effect of tobacco production.
