Membership to the Alliance shall be open upon application to;
- NGOs, CBOs, FBOs;
- Learning and research Institutions;
- any other organization involved in tobacco control in Kenya;
Strategic partnerships shall also be formed with relevant government departments, United Nations bodies and like-minded individuals.
8) The criteria for membership shall be
• Registration by the government of Kenya
• No affiliation whatsoever to the tobacco industry
• Demonstrable commitment to tobacco control
• Undertakes to adhere to the Code of Conduct
• Such other criteria as may be amended from time to time by the Alliance members
9) Membership will be based upon payment of registration fee of Kshs. 1,000/- and payment of annual subscription fee, which fee shall be determined by the members from time to time.
10) The minimal number of members shall be not less than five persons
11) A member shall cease to be a member if:
i) The organization gives one month's notice in writing to the Advisory Committee of its intention to resign from membership. Upon the expiry of such notice that organization shall cease to be a member but its liability to contribute to the funds of the Alliance in the event of its being wound up or dissolved shall continue for one year from the expiry of such notice.
ii) If the organization is removed from membership by the vote of not less than two thirds of the members of the Alliance at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Alliance specially convened and at which a representative of the organization has been given a reasonable opportunity of attending and being heard.
iii) If the organization fails to send a representative to three consecutive meetings of the Alliance of which the organization had notice without reasonable excuse.
3.2 Rights of members
12) A member shall have the following rights:
a) Access to all services offered by the Alliance
b) Representation in organs of the Alliance as stipulated in the Constitution and by-laws
c) Voting rights in all motions including moving a motion to amend the Constitution and bylaws.
d) Any other right as stipulated in the Constitution and By-laws
3.3 Obligations of members
13) Each member is expected to effectively contribute in a positive way to the realization of the objects of the Alliance by and not limited to:
a) Providing the secretariat with a profile of the Alliance indicating contact details, officials/contact persons, areas of interest and specialization in tobacco controll, affiliation and organisational activities;
b) Indicating to the Secretariat which action group(s) they wish to participate in;
c) All members may be required to disclose information to the Secretariat on the source of their financing and support;
d) Pay the agreed subscription on time;
e) Furnish relevant, accurate and timely information and/or reports to the Secretariat for attention and action;
f) Disseminate relevant information and research findings to all relevant stakeholders of the Alliance;
g) Partner, engage, network and foster creative linkages with other Alliance members for effective tobacco control in Kenya;
h) Contribute resources whether technical, financial or human to foster the work in tobacco control;
