KETCA training of the Tobacco Control Board |

Kenya Tobacco Control Alliance (KETCA) in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation (MPHS) held a workshop for training of Tobacco Control Board (TCB) on 13th-15th June at Bracken Hurst Hotel in Limuru. The workshop was meant to sensitize TCB to undertake its role in tobacco control in order to increase its involvement in all matters of tobacco control in Kenya.
Other objectives were:
• To update members of the Tobacco Control Board on the Health, Social and Economic effects of tobacco production, sale and use.
• To explore the global and local tobacco control efforts
• To acquaint members with the provisions of the Tobacco Control Board
• To explore the role of Government, Civil Society and Public in Tobacco Control Efforts.
• To explain the importance of pictorial Health Warnings to the members
The attendance was impressive and a success. 19 participants including 10 board members. These were topics that were covered:
i) Tobacco and its Health, Social and Economic effects.
ii) Tobacco Control Efforts-Global perspectives
iii) Introduction to Tobacco Control Act
iv) Functions of the Board
v) Partnership in Tobacco Control (TC)
vi) Health Warnings on Tobacco packages
