Kenya Tobacco Control Alliance {KETCA} is a non profit membership organization that brings together registered organizations in tobacco control in Kenya. It is involved in carrying out programs and activities to reduce death, disability and mortality caused by tobacco production and consumption in Kenya. KETCA provides a forum for the co-ordination and consolidation of individuals and organizational capacities of members’ activities in tobacco control.

KETCA was formed in 2006 and registered as a society in May 2007 under the Society Act 1968{Rules 4}. It is governed by board of directors responsible for directing and managing the operations of the society.

Vision

The vision of the Alliance is “A Tobacco-Free Kenya”

Mission

To ensure coordinated efforts in tobacco control in Kenya, bringing on board all stakeholders not affiliated to the tobacco industry and not involved in the promotion of the growth or use of tobacco, in implementing international and national legal instruments, policies and activities on tobacco control.

Objectives

The objectives are to:

  1. To facilitate public education on the dangers of tobacco growing, use and exposure to tobacco smoke.

  2. To coordinate research on various tobacco control policy issues.

  3. To coordinate lobbying and advocacy for relevant legislation and policies.

  4. To facilitate the harnessing of the capacity of members for mutual benefit of the Alliance.

  5. To facilitate capacity building of members.

  6. To foster collaboration and networking both between members and with other tobacco control agencies both nationally and internationally.

  7. To coordinate the mobilization of resources for joint activities in tobacco control.

  8. To carry out Monitoring & Evaluation of the implementation of tobacco control legislation and policy.

  9. To facilitate the sharing of knowledge, skills, research findings, information, best practices and lessons learnt between members of the alliance.

  10. To mobilize the public to engage in tobacco control activities.
